Gaming Performance

In order to test the gaming performance of the LG 34GP950G, I played a variety of different titles on it including PUBG, Call of Duty: WWII, and Destiny 2. The experience in each game was exceptional. First off, this monitor’s high contrast ratio ensured that details in dark scenes remained visible.

I could easily spot enemies in the dark even with my back turned to them. On top of that, this monitor’s fast response time made the gameplay incredibly smooth and stutter-free. There were no tearing or screen artifacts while playing these games at 144Hz.

Furthermore, the vibrant color reproduction really added more depth to each scene which kept me immersed in each game.

However, if you want to take advantage of this monitor’s smooth and vibrant gameplay then you will need a PC that has enough muscle in order to run games at 144Hz and with HDR. For example, I did notice some slight input lag while playing PUBG on my laptop which only runs a GTX 1050 graphics card.

Nonetheless, I was able to run Destiny 2 on my laptop without any problems and the experience was just as smooth and immersive. With that being said, I have no doubt that this monitor will provide an excellent performance if you have a PC with a GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card or better.

Cons

  • The motion handling capability of this monitor may be limited by your hardware.
  • The price is a bit high for some folks.

Build Quality

The LG 34GP950G has a simple, yet elegant design. The monitor’s bezels are thin and the backside is covered by a black brushed aluminum which adds a nice touch.

In terms of build quality, this monitor feels premium even though most of its components are made from plastic.

Furthermore, it is supported by a silver metallic stand that is fully height and tilts adjustable. The monitor also comes with a transparent plastic sheet that ensures the monitor is protected when shipping.

The Power and Menu buttons are located on the right bezel and they work well, but I prefer joystick buttons since they allow me to quickly change settings without having to go through multiple menus in order to locate them.

In addition, you cannot connect this monitor to a VESA mount since the stand is built right into its design.

The 34in IPS panel provides rich colors and excellent viewing angles so no matter where you are sitting, there will be a minimal color shift or loss of contrast. Not to mention this monitor has a curved screen which makes the experience more immersive than ever before.

On the backside of the monitor, you will find a plethora of connectivity options including 2 HDMI 2.0 inputs, DisplayPort 1.4, USB 3.0 hub with fast charging support, and SPDIF audio input/output connectors. I would have loved to see this monitor come with built-in speakers since it lacks an integrated USB hub, but I believe that most folks who are interested in this monitor will only connect it to their PC anyways.

As for the picture settings in the OSD menu, you have 5 levels of brightness along with a Black Stabilizer that automatically adjusts the gamma level in order to provide more detail in dark scenes. Other settings include Standard, Cinema, Photo, sRGB, two FPS modes, RTS, and three Gamer presets.

Performance As mentioned earlier, if you want to take advantage of the performance capabilities of this monitor then your PC must have enough muscle in order for it to handle the resolution and refresh rate. However, with that being said, I have no doubt that this monitor will provide an excellent performance if you have a PC with a GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card or better.

Conclusion

LG’s 34-inch IPS monitor is a gorgeous and well-built display that offers superb color accuracy and brilliant contrast thanks to its AH-IPS panel. It has a sleek design with thin bezels which improves the user experience, but it would have been nice if this monitor came with built-in speakers.

Furthermore, I’m not a fan of the OSD menu nor do I like that this monitor does not have a DisplayPort cable included in its package. However, I hope LG will address these issues with future iterations of this model. In conclusion, if you already own a GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card or higher and want to experience games from the next generation on a gorgeous 34in 2,560 x 1,440 display, then this is the monitor you should look into.
